Education Workshops with Shell Shock
A free mental health education pack developed by Liz Raba (Contact/Bravo22 Company) suitable for KS3 and above based on Shell Shock has been developed for free use and can be downloaded from our website.
Shell Shock the Play deals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD suffered as a result of traumatic experiences during operational service. Karen Henderson from Combat Stress, the leading mental health charity for veterans, gives a fantastic overview of PTSD and its symptoms on page 31. Our intention through this pack is not only to share Tommy’s story, but to encourage and empower schools to start conversations about mental health, to raise awareness and to reduce stigma within military communities and beyond.
You can view a trailer of the live performance of Shell Shock by visiting https://vimeo.com/smokescreenvisuals/review/269153370/5d8b3bd16c
Due to the content of material in Shell Shock, this pack is primarily aimed at Key Stages 4 & 5. However, there are themes and exercises that can be used across the whole school as appropriate.
n.b. The live production contains adult themes and strong language which some might find offensive. It also features flashing lights, loud sound effects and scenes which some may find upsetting or disturbing. It may also impact those who have experienced traumatic memories.
